UN Survey: Global Fears of Major War Top All Other Risks
[UN News] Two years ago, the idea of a large-scale war breaking out felt like a distant hypothetical to the experts who help chart the world's dangers. Today it tops their list of fears, according to a new UN Global Risk Report.
A UN survey of global risk experts now ranks the outbreak of a major war as the top global threat, a shift from two years ago when it was considered a distant hypothetical. For African markets, heightened geopolitical risk perceptions typically translate into tighter global financial conditions, higher risk premia on sovereign debt, and reduced foreign direct investment flows. The finding may also reinforce pressure on African governments to diversify trade and security partnerships away from conflict-exposed corridors.
