Amnesty International has urged Algeria to impose an official moratorium on executions as a step toward abolishing the death penalty. The call follows President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's order last month for the justice minister to amend the penal code to reintroduce capital punishment for intentionally starting or instigating fires.
